BRIEF MORPHOLOGY
The plant Plumbago zeylanica is typically a perennial evergreen shrub or herbaceous plant. It can grow as a low, sprawling shrub or a more upright, bushy plant, depending on the environment. The stems are usually woody at the base and can be either erect or spreading. They may have a somewhat reddish-brown or greenish color. The stems are generally smooth but can become rough or woody as the plant matures with longitudinal striations. The leaves are arranged alternately, simple, ovate to lanceolate, entire or slightly wavy, generally glabrous on both surfaces, usually a deep green color. Flowers are arranged in terminal or axillary racemes or panicles. The flowers are typically funnel-shaped with 5 petals, fragrant, white or pale blue. The fruit is a small, dry, rounded, dehiscent, capsule. The roots are fibrous, white to light brown in colour.

The roots are fibrous and has numerous thin, branching roots that spread out from the base of the stem. They are long, slightly branched with smooth texture. When fresh, the roots are light yellow in color, but turn reddish brown when dried. They have a bitter taste and a distinct odour.
