Asthapana Basti or an enema which involves the use of decoction as a major ingredient. It is the most important treatment modality in Ayurveda. It is one among the Panchakarma (5 Bio-purification) methods but still is said to be producing the major effects of any treatment in Ayurveda. The procedure is said to produce predominantly a purificatory action but is also has the ability to provide nourishment.
